Facial Augmentation

Facial augmentation focuses on restoring or improving facial balance. Whether the issue is asymmetry resulting from trauma or congenital abnormalities, a patient-specific implant makes it possible to restore shape, volume and symmetry with precision. Facial augmentation is used for a range of indications, including:

  • Facial asymmetry resulting from trauma
  • Congenital abnormalities
  • Insufficient bone volume in the cheekbone or lower jaw
  • Aesthetic corrections where symmetry and balance are central

Patient-specific implants tailored to the anatomy and desired shape

Designed for symmetry and balance

Each implant is fully tailored to the anatomy and the operating surgeon’s requirements. This results in a solution that is not only technically sound, but also aligned with the expected outcome.

The implants are fixed using pre-planned countersunk screws. If necessary, PEEK implants can still be adjusted during surgery using high-speed burrs to refine the result further. Although PEEK is generally preferred for facial augmentations, titanium may also be chosen in specific cases involving zygomatic augmentation.

Fully customised

Zygomatic augmentation (cheekbone)

In unilateral augmentation, the implant is designed based on a mirrored image of the healthy side and on input from the surgeon. This allows the natural symmetry of the face to be restored, with attention to surrounding structures such as the facial nerve. Bilateral cheekbone augmentation is also possible. In such cases, we select a suitable skull from our database as the starting point for the design.

Mandibular augmentation (jaw)

In unilateral augmentation, the implant is designed to correct asymmetry in the lower jaw. The design is tailored to the existing anatomy and the patient’s desired profile, for example at the angle of the jaw or the chin. When augmentation is required on both sides, a suitable mandible is selected from our database as the starting point for the design.
