Mandibular reconstruction

Our patient-specific mandibula solutions are used for segmental defects of the lower jaw, where standard reconstruction plates do not sufficiently match the anatomy or the planned reconstruction. This plays a role in, among other things:

  • Segmental mandibular defects
  • Reconstructions in combination with autologous bone graft, such as fibula or crista iliaca
  • Situations in which maintaining shape, contour and function of the lower jaw is important
  • Complex reconstructions, where accurate execution of the preoperative plan is essential
  • Case studies in which standard plates require too much intra-operative adjustment

From preoperative planning to accurate reconstruction

Patient-specific design for fit and stability

Our mandibular reconstruction plates are designed patient-specific based on CT data. The design follows the shape of the original lower jaw or connects to a planned bone graft, such as fibula or crista iliaca. This creates a plate that fits the anatomy and the surgical plan.

Unlike standard plates, the plate does not need to be bent or adjusted during the operation. This saves time, prevents tension in the material and contributes to a predictable installation. The screw positions are also planned in advance based on local bone thickness and bone quality.

The plates are 3D printed in titanium, which allows them to accurately connect to small irregularities in the bone surface. This ensures a precise fit, stable hold and a reconstruction that better matches the planned position.
